Diabetic Retinopathy and How Do They Restore Vision?

Diabetes, no matter how severe, brings with it another dimension of disease. Diabetes interferes with the body’s ability to use and manage sugar (glucose).

This disease is identified by too much sugar in the blood, which spreads damage throughout the body, including the eyes. And, one of them, is the famous ‘diabetic eye disease’ or Diabetic retinopathy. You can also get the best diabetic eye exam through various online sources.

Here, damage occurs to the retina due to the bad influence of uncontrolled diabetes, which in turn can cause blindness.

What is Diabetic Retinopathy?

When changes occur in the blood vessels of the retina, whether it is damaged, can leak blood, or grow new vessels, it causes visual impairment.

Routine diabetes eye tests are needed to identify the disease at an early stage. Diabetic retinopathy causes chronological damage to the retina, a sensitive layer of light in the back of the eye, and hence, is considered a complication of diabetes that threatens threatening vision.

Stages:

The earlier it detects an illness, the earlier the disease can be cured. And the case of diabetic retinopathy is the same, consisting of two stages:

Non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NDPR):

The initial stage of the disease, where the body may show mild symptoms, or show no symptoms at all. Another name for macular edema, a condition in which the blood vessels in the retina weaken and begin to leak.

Proliferative retinopathy (PDR):

Further forms of the disease, where the retina lacks oxygen, due to circulation problems. This refers to changes that occur when new, abnormal blood vessels begin to grow on the retina, and vitreous fluid, like a gel that fills the back of the eye.
